The Sharon Housing Authority (SHA) was established in 1987, thanks to the efforts of First Selectman Bill Wilbur and his successor Bob Moeller. Both of these men were focused on the growing need for affordable housing in Sharon. As a result, Sharon Ridge, a moderate income affordable rental housing complex, was built and opened in January of 1992. The success of this initiative is confirmed by the fact that these apartments remain fully rented.


Sharon Ridge Affordable Housing 

Sharon Ridge is a 20 unit moderate income affordable rental apartment complex managed for the SHA by Connecticut Real Estate Management (CREM). There are 2 one-bedroom, 14 two-bedroom and 4 three-bedroom apartments.   Two units are handicap accessible. Renovations were completed in 2008 and additional renovations will start in the summer of 2013. The construction of twelve additional units will begin in the spring of 2013. This project will add 8 one-bedroom and 4 two-bedroom apartments with two units handicapped accessible and five units handicapped adaptable.


Sharon Ridge has two wells for water and is connected to the town's sewer system. Rents are calculated at 30% of an applicant's adjusted income or the basic rent, whichever is higher. Rents are subject to change based on annual budget requirements. Presently, basic rents are: $475 for a one-bedroom, $510 for a two bedroom and $550 for a 3 bedroom apartment. All applicants, (income must be below 80% of the area median income) must submit an application to CREM, P.O. Box 248, Southington, CT 06489.
